Catastrophe Modelling Analyst, Catastrophe Risk Analyst, Marine Insurance, London, 6-9 month FTC, £90,000 – £100,000

Our client, a boutique insurance consultancy in the heart of London’s Financial services district is seeking a Catastrophe Modelling Analyst to join them us.
You will play a pivotal role in supporting our Marine Insurance clients by developing, refining, and implementing catastrophe models. You will work closely with insurers, underwriters, and actuaries to assess and quantify risks from natural and man-made hazards, helping clients understand their exposure and optimize their portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:
• Build and maintain catastrophe models specific to marine risks, including natural disasters (e.g., hurricanes, tsunamis) and human-made events (e.g., oil spills, piracy).
• Analyse large datasets related to global shipping, cargo, and marine assets to assess potential vulnerabilities and exposures.
• Collaborate with underwriters, actuaries, and clients to translate modelling outputs into actionable insights for portfolio management and risk mitigation.
• Keep up to date with the latest catastrophe modelling tools and techniques, while ensuring the continuous improvement of internal models.
• Assist in the preparation of bespoke client reports, risk assessments, and presentations.
• Support the development of reinsurance strategies by simulating different loss scenarios and stress tests.
• Provide technical expertise on marine-specific risks and offer tailored recommendations for catastrophe risk transfer.

Key Skills:
• Catastrophe modelling experience across marine classes
• Proficiency with catastrophe modelling software such as RMS, AIR, or similar tools.
• Advanced skills in data analysis using tools like Excel, Python, R, or SQL.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for identifying and mitigating risks.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
